This
rambling but rather enjoyable comedy is described by its director
Richard Eyre as a latter-day It Happened One Night. A feminist
seeking a co-driver to Austria ends up with Harry, who says he's
a vegetarian, non-smoking, mechanically-minded homosexual. Against
her better judgement, she accepts him. And she's wrong: any experienced
cinemagoer could have told her several days in advance that the
only one of Harry's `qualifications' that's genuine is that he
can drive a car (just). What happens from there on in contains
a number of lightly amusing moments before journey's end. Lindsay
Duncan is attractive although not terribly convincing as Sally;
Stephen Rea, who subsequently starred in The Crying Game, is
pretty good as the lugubrious Harry. |
