Simple Things"What struck me is that working with Tony is much more akin to working with the poets than it is to comedy. We have a really good rapport in the more surreal poetic moments, which sets the more direct stuff off really well. The songs are pretty different for me. I have this set of bass pedals (Mister Bassman) which I acquired in the mid-70s, used for a year, and abandoned. I dug them out, had them serviced, and am using them throughout this show. They are kind of like a Stylophone which you play with your feet. Very silly, but also hugely effective in a one man band context. Just makes everything rockier." ANDY ROBERTS
Andy helped form the poetry/rock group The Liverpool Scene, and has performed with Plainsong, Grimms, The Bonzo Dog Band, Roy Harper, Rolf Harris, Hank Wangford, The Rutles; and on Pink Floyd's The Wall - Live. He has scored movies for the BBC, Disney and Miramax, and as well as a collaborating with the Liverpool Poets (Henri, McGough and Patten), he produced playwright Willy Russell¹s last album. And now he is working with Tony.
Tony was a member of Brighton¹s own Cliffhanger Theatre Company, and was the taller half of Lancing's own "Les & Robert"; his solo shows include "The Gerty Naylor Show" and "The Black Room"; his TV appearances include "The Day Today", "Alan Partridge", not forgetting "Basil Brush"; and he has written for Mr. Bean The Animated Series, the Irish silent comedy "Postie", as well as for an armada, a host, and a raft (in fact, a host of rafts that look like an armada) of his own projects. Now he is working with Andy.
Asked to describe what people can expect from their unique music and comedy collaboration, Tony said:
"I've got a saw - and Andy's got a guitar, what could possibly go wrong?"
